Translating GitHub Projects

Applingua has been working with tech companies and app developers since 2010. During that time, we've managed localization projects of all shapes and sizes, across all different mediums and according to our clients’ workflows.

It’s no secret that GitHub is a popular repository for developers creating mobile apps, web apps and other software across teams. Often clients ask us if we can contribute to the repo instead of sending files via our website or email. Along with our localization platform, Crowdin, we are fully setup for this.

How it works

The basic process is this:

  • You invite us to your repo on GitHub
  • We fork the repo and track changes
  • We integrate our fork with Crowdin
  • We translate new or changed strings
  • We submit a pull request from our fork to your source repo

You then decide whether to accept the changes and merge with your repo.

What happens with future updates?

For infrequent updates, you just need to inform us via email and we’ll pull any tracked changes from your source repo. You’ll only be charged for what’s new or changed.

If you need regular translation updates, then a GitHub notification email is enough to get us started. We’ll pre-arrange with you a push and invoicing schedule.

What happens if your repo is (very) private?

Only your Applingua project manager has access to the repo, not the translators. Crowdin, our backend localization platform, accesses our forks using a private key. The translators only see the text for translation and cannot modify or open any other files.

Applingua can of course sign additional NDAs as required.

How to get started
